This site — a hand-rolled blog engine, and the front door to the infrastructure it runs on.

The site you're reading is its own project. It's a small Go server — standard library routing, templates and static assets embedded in the binary — that renders markdown posts from disk. Posts live on a mounted volume and get edited through a minimal server-rendered admin, so publishing is just writing.

There is deliberately almost nothing here: no framework, no build pipeline for the frontend, one small script for the theme toggle. The styling is a single hand-written CSS file.

The part you can't see

The more interesting project is under it. This site — and every other site I run — lives on a Kubernetes cluster I operate myself, fronted by an Envoy gateway with TLS to every backend. I wrote about the migration in From Podman to K8S.

Uptime monitoring lives deliberately outside that cluster, on a Raspberry Pi running Prometheus, a blackbox prober, Grafana, and Gotify for push alerts — because a monitoring system that shares a failure domain with the thing it monitors will sleep through exactly the outage you built it for.
